ABOUT ME

THE ACCENT

Back in 1990, in Alexandria Scotland, soon after Nelson Mandela was released from jail, and during a time when Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinéad O'Connor was blasting from radios at #1, little me was blasted into this world.

Soon after, my family moved to Rochdale, England, where we lived until I was 5 years old. This is what I sounded like back then:

Little me is cute, I know. But not many companies are looking for that sound…

Luckily, the voice-over gods came to my rescue, and bestowed upon me a blessing: My family moved to the Netherlands. There, I grew up in an international environment. I was surrounded by so many languages and accents, of which British was the most prevalent, that I developed a neutral English accent.

I sound like a native speaker, yet I don’t sound American, or overly British either (unless you ask me to).

This allows me to provide neutral-sounding native English voice-overs to companies who need to appeal to a global, international audience.

For example, Hewlett-Packard:

HOW DID I GET INTO VOICE-OVERS?

I first started recording my voice when I was 18. I discovered writing music and started making songs for friends as a birthday present using my voice to deliver funny-sounding messages.

Making music grew into a passion and I soon became

I was soon asked to write the music for a Europe-wide Tour de France TV commercial for Tacx.

While I was studying for my Bachelor of Music Production, I spent my days writing and recording songs for myself and other artists. I spent many hours in the studio recording vocals.

Vocals are the most important part of a song. They carry the message.

Through recording myself and other artists, I developed a keen ear for how a vocal should sound in a production. And this had a lot of carry-over when I was asked to record.

Vocals were the most important thing to me. They carry the message.

I had a natural feeling for how a vocal track needed to sound and how to get that result from the singer. I also recorded my own voice for songs I wrote and produced.

When people started asking me to record voice-overs, I brought many skills to the table.

But recording voice-overs is far from easy. Even with all my experience in the studio.

Like with everything I do, I strive to offer the very best on the market. I didn’t want to be average. So I studied with some of the best coaches in the industry, including Paul Strikwerda and J. Michael Collins.

They helped me perform my craft at a higher level, and widen the range of styles I can deliver.

Their training, along with years of experience working with clients who uphold high standards, has turned me into a seasoned pro.

Add to that my expertise working with audio production and you’re guaranteed a voice-over recording of the highest quality.

DIGITAL VOMAD

I have always wanted to travel and be free. But I also wanted to run a successful voice-over business. So I decided to combine the two.

A ‘Digital Nomad’ travels the world freely, working remotely, without a fixed address.

In March of 2018, I coined the term ‘Digital VOmad’ (Digital Voice-Over Nomad).

In June of 2018, I sold all my belongings, cancelled my rent and hit the road to my first destination: Berlin.

Since then, I’ve been traveling the world, while growing my professional voice-over business remotely.

Since I started, I have recorded high-quality voice-overs for multinational corporations in the heart Kreuzberg (Berlin), San Francisco, Yosemite Valley, along Highway 1 (Big Sur), in Barcelona, and Bali, Indonesia. Quite the adventure.

Now, I’m in Canggu, Bali. An inspiring place, where I’m surrounded by freespirited entrepreneurs, athletes, and comedians.

I got ‘stuck’ here when COVID-19 hit. Stuck isn’t quite the right word though…

… because I like it here.

Every morning I wake up, hydrate my vocal cords with a fresh coconut and go train calisthenics at Nirvana Strength or or Muay Thai at BaliMMA.

Then I’ll record some voice-overs. Towards 3pm, I’ll start receiving calls and e-mails from my clients on the other side of the world.

Do my clients notice I’m on the other side of the world?

Not really. I have a fully professional studio with high-speed internet and SourceConnect, through which I regularly record live sessions.

Time difference? Bali is 6 hours ahead of Europe.

No problem. While my European clients are still asleep, I’m up and recording their scripts. So they have their voice-over by the time they wake up in the morning. If a live session is necessary, we plan it in the AM.

Or I work late if necessary.

I provide my clients with the best quality recordings and service, wherever they are in the world, and add a tropical twist.

“Good for you, Sean. But I came here for an amazing voice-over recording.”

Of course. Let’s get down to business.
